Festival: University City Partners will host the Green Goats and Gardens Festival 11 a.m.-3 p.m. April 27 at 1000 Louis Rose Place at the University Research Park. The festival is family-friendly and will have a bike inspection and rodeo, a UNCC student art show, an adopt-a-dog station, and exhibitions of green products, farm stands and health and wellness stations. Kids can color a picture of a goat to enter for the chance to win a bike.

Fellowship: Professor Zhongjie Lin, an associate professor of architecture at UNC Charlotte, was awarded the 2013 Guggenheim Fellowship. Lin is one of three state residents chosen for the fellowship. He will travel to Woodrow Wilson International Center of Scholars in Washington, D.C., for the next year to complete his work studying China’s urbanization and the emerging new town movement. After completing the fellowship, Lin will return to UNCC and complete his manuscript, “Massive Urbanization and the Emerging New Town Movement in China.”


Medicine drop: The Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department will conduct Operation Medicine Drop April 27 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. for citizens to drop-off their unused medication. Polymers Center for Excellence, 8900 Research Drive.

Public Conversation: WFAE, Charlotte’s National Public Radio affiliate, will host a public conversation to discuss “One Charlotte or Many? A Neighborhood Perspective,” 7-8:30 p.m. April 25 at McGlohon Theater, 345 N College St. The conversation will address if Charlotte has invested in its uptown at the expense of local neighborhoods, or if the investment brought vitality to them. The event is free but reservations are required.
