Three members of the Charlotte 49ers men’s soccer team, which won the Conference USA tournament title, were named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America’s All-South Region teams, officials announced Dec. 10.
Junior forward Giuseppe Gentile was named first team All-Region. Senior defender Thomas Allen was named second team All-Region, while senior midfielder Aidan Kirkbride earned third-team All-Region honors.
Gentile, who earned the C-USA tournament’s offensive MVP and all-conference first-team honors this season, finished with eight goals and three assists. Four of his goals were game winners this season.
Allen, who earned all-C-USA second team honors and was named to the league’s all-tournament team this season, anchored a 49er defensive unit that shutout 11 opponents and limited foes to scoring 16 goals on the season.
Kirkbride, who earned all-C-USA first-team honors along with all-academic honors this season, finished third on the team with four goals, with two of those being game winners. He also helped with the back line that shutout 11 opponents.
