Cyber Defense Research award: The National Security Agency and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security have renewed UNC Charlotte’s designation as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance/Cyber Defense Research. In 2008, the university was one of the first in the country to receive this designation. UNCC’s College of Computing and Informatics is home to the Cyber Defense and Network Assurability Center, the focal point of cyber security research at the university.
Dine Out for Kids: Make a difference in the life of a student just by eating out. On June 17, more than 85 restaurants will dish up food and fun and donate a portion of their sales to Communities In Schools. Dine out for breakfast, lunch and/or dinner, and help support the CIS mission to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. Sustainability award: Carolinas Medical Center-University has been recognized with a national award for environmental stewardship and sustainability. The hospital received the Emerald Partner for Change Award from Practice Greenhealth, a national group that advances environmental stewardship and best practices by organizations in the health-care field. The award recognizes health-care facilities that demonstrate well-developed sustainability programs and have achieved an advanced level of improvements in their mercury elimination, waste reduction, recycling and source reduction programs. To earn the award, CMC-University highlighted efforts centered on its teaching garden.
