Arrest made in shooting of man found walking without pants

Sheriff’s investigators on Wednesday arrested Joseph Robert “AJ” King, 35, of East Spencer, in the shooting of Johnny Leonard, 52, of Salisbury. Leonard’s body was covered with trash after he was shot and robbed. He woke up the next morning and made his way to a road.

Death penalty sought in case of bodies found in burnt car

Prosecutors announced in Burke County Superior Court on Tuesday that they will try the case against Scott Devon Hemphill as a capital matter. Hemphill, 33, of Charlotte, is charged with two counts of murder in the Sept. 17 deaths of Spencer Murray, 29, and Albert Austin, 35, both of Forest City.
