Man arrested in fatal southeast Charlotte shooting

30-year-old Carson David Christian Jr. was fatally shot on North Wendover Road on Tuesday night. Police on Friday took suspect Treymaine Delmar Johnson, 23, into custody without incident and charged him with murder and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Authorities seized at least 200 pieces of counterfeit trademarked merchandise from Tammy Renee Howard’s home in Charlotte in 2015. Howard bought the fake goods in New York or by ordering them from China. Howard received probation this month after a jury found her guilty of felony counterfeit use of a trademark

Man used ‘gratification device’ on 11-year-old girl

A 46-year-old Morganton man who used a “gratification device” on an 11-year-old girl was sentenced this week at least 11 years in prison. Marty Baird Peters pled guilty to first-degree sex offense with a child, the Burke County District Attorney’s Office said.

‘I’m not going to sit here and let him shoot me,’ Muslim mom recalls of terrifying Charlotte encounter

A Charlotte Muslim mom said she feared for her life when a man pulled up to her car as she breastfed her baby at a northeast Charlotte shopping center this week, glared menacingly at her for several minutes and pulled out a long gun with the barrel pointed directly at her. The nation’s largest Muslim civil rights group called on police to investigate the case as a possible hate crime.

Insurance company uncovered Charlotte taxi fraud scheme

An insurance company cracked the Charlotte taxi and limousine fraud scheme in which 70 drivers listed the same Waxhaw address, a spokesman for the N.C. Department of Insurance said Monday. Stonewood Insurance Co. found numerous policies using the same “garaging” address, which prompted the company to look further into the situation and contact the Department of Insurance with its findings.
