A Charlotte woman was arrested and charged with first degree arson Monday in an east Charlotte apartment fire that displaced more than 20 people, authorities said.
Police said Shontavia Gingles, 21, set fire to her apartment in the 3300 block of Magnolia Hill Drive between 11 a.m. and 11:56 a.m. The Charlotte Fire Department determined the fire was intentionally set.
The fire, which caused $100,000 in losses, displaced 18 adults and four children. Four occupants were rescued and evaluated at the scene, fire officials said. No injuries were reported.
The Red Cross is assisting residents who were displaced.
Gingles was being held Monday on a $10,000 secured bond, according to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office web site.
