A teenager accused of stealing cash and coins from 20 vehicles in the Meriweather neighborhood in Indian Trail one morning last month appears to have had had an easy time of it: The owners left all of the vehicles unlocked, the Union County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday.
Jacob Lewis Kemling, 18, of Matthews was arrested and charged with 26 felonies and 11 misdemeanors in connection with the thefts. He is scheduled to appear in court on July 11.
Sheriff Eddie Cathey said forensic evidence collected by his investigators led to the arrest. “Our crime scene investigators are using some of the latest technology and equipment available to collect and process evidence,” Cathey said in a statement. “Their work is often behind the scenes but critical in helping identify suspects.”
