An altercation Thursday between a coach and student at a high school in Rowan County is under investigation, according to the Rowan County Sheriff's Office.
The alleged incident involved Lee Linville, assistant football coach at West Rowan High School, law enforcement sources say. A video was released that appears to show Linville fighting with a student. That student’s identity has not been released.
The video was taken by another student and shows the coach in a corner with the student, where he then allegedly pushes the student to the ground. It appears that a student is attempting to hold the coach back.
No charges have been filed.
Linville was originally suspended with pay, but after further investigation, he was transitioned to suspension without pay, Rowan-Salisbury Schools said.
The district said it is working with law enforcement as well as conducting an internal investigation.
“We take these situations very serious. We regret that this occurred. Our focus remains to be providing a safe environment for teaching and learning for all our students and staff,” the district said in a statement.
