Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have arrested and charged a suspect in Monday’s fatal shooting of Dalton Dion Hopkins in the 2300 block of Julia Avenue, off Statesville Avenue in north Charlotte.
Police said they arrested Damayron Damon Harris, 32, of Charlotte, without incident Tuesday and charged him with first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Police said they applied a tourniquet to the leg of Hopkins where he’d been shot. Hopkins, 33, was then taken to Carolinas Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead a short time later by medical staff.
Police aren’t releasing what they believe led to the shooting.

In a statement announcing the arrest Wednesday morning, police said they’re looking for no other suspects, “but this remains an ongoing, active investigation.”
Harris served 1 1/2 years in prison for receiving a stolen vehicle, court records show. He was released in 2002.
Hopkins was placed on probation in 2000 and 2013 after being convicted both times of possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, court records show.
