Police are searching for a four-door burgundy sedan believed to have hit a pedestrian on South Tryon Street at Sandy Porter Road in Steele Creek late Thursday.
The pedestrian, a white female, was taken to Carolinas Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, police said. She was in or near a crosswalk when she was hit at about 10:30 p.m. by the older-model car, possibly a Honda Civic, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police. The car then drove away.
Police are withholding the victim’s name until her family is notified.
The sedan, which has damage to its headlights and possibly the windshield, was last seen northbound on South Tryon Street near Interstate 485.
