Rock Hill police are investigating the stabbing death of an elderly man who was found inside his apartment by a maintenance worker Thursday.
Officers responded around 11:45 a.m. to a home on the 300 block of Hutchinson Street, where a man was found with lacerations to his head and chest, according to a police report. A maintenance worker with Rock Hill Housing Authority said he was at the complex with an exterminator to treat the property.
The maintenance worker told officers no one answered the door when he knocked, so he entered with a key. They found the victim, who is in his 70s, lying on his back on the floor in a pool of blood with lacerations on him.
The worker called 911 but the victim was already dead, police said. The case started out as a death investigation but is now being investigated as a homicide.
The victim’s identity will be released by the York County Coroner’s Office.
