The Anson County sheriff says a man was fatally shot Friday afternoon after he reportedly pointed a rifle at a deputy.
The State Bureau of Investigations is investigating the incident. It happened along Upper White Store Road in Peachland near N.C. 74 Friday afternoon.
Emergency crews were first called to the scene after a man was believed to have suffered from a stroke. When they arrived, they said the man was combative and requested backup from the Anson County Sheriff’s Office.
When backup arrived, the man pointed a rifle at the deputy, Sheriff Landric Reid said during a press conference Friday afternoon.

Reid said both the victim and the deputy were white males. No names have been released.
This is the third officer-involved shooting since November in Anson County.
