A Rock Hill man is accused of crashing his Corvette into a cemetery worker’s truck, leaving the scene of the collision and then driving recklessly through the parking lot of Piedmont Medical Center.
At about 9:40 p.m. Tuesday, Rock Hill Police were called to investigate a hit and run collision in the parking lot Silver Dollar Saloon on Camden Ave. Witnesses said a man in a dark blue 1970s model Corvette appeared to have difficulty finding the exit. He struck a 2012 Chevy Tahoe belonging to Lancaster Memorial Park and then drove away, according to a Rock Hill police report.
Bouncers tried to stop the driver, but he fled in a “reckless manner” heading north on Cherry Road.
Customers and bar staff identified the driver as Timothy Haley, 50. They said he was denied alcohol because of his “high level of intoxication,” the report states.
About two hours later, other officers were called to Piedmont Medical Center after reports of someone driving recklessly through the hospital parking lot who almost struck another vehicle.
Officers found Haley in the lobby of the hospital. He claimed he didn’t crash with any other vehicles and he wasn’t driving, the report states. He refused a blood alcohol test and was uncooperative with police, the report states.
Police searched his vehicle and found several prescription bottles for Tramadol, Alprazolam and Diazepam, which all warn against mixing alcohol with the drugs. Officers also noticed fresh scratches on Haley’s vehicle, which were consistent with the damage to the Tahoe.
Haley was charged with driving under the influence, leaving the scene of an accident and failure to register vehicle.
