New York rape suspect captured in Charlotte

Eric Tyrone Morris was sought on several charges out of Suffolk County; he is in jail

A man wanted in the New York City area on rape and other charges was arrested Tuesday in Charlotte by local and federal officials.

Eric Tyrone Morris, 35, was taken into custody at an apartment in the 600 block of West Boulevard, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.

Morris was wanted in Suffolk County, N.Y., on charges of first-degree rape, second-degree rape, first-degree sexual abuse, first-degree rape with personal injury, first-degree sexual conduct against a child, and endangering the welfare of a child with personal injury.

Federal marshals said they determined that Morris was living in the Charlotte area, and he was traced to the West Boulevard residence.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office joined federal authorities in the investigation and arrest.

Morris is jailed in Mecklenburg County, awaiting extradition proceedings.
