Three men face charges in connection with a break-in and larceny at a convenience store in western Lincoln County last month, authorities say.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said the three are accused of the Jan. 25 theft from the Triple B One Stop store on N.C. 274 near Cherryville.

Charged in the case were Toby Richard Jones, 18, of Shelby; Christopher Kyle Laughter, 21, of Forest City; and Michael Wayne Matney, 20, of Lawndale. Matney already was jailed in Cleveland County on a probation violation, deputies said.

According to investigators, the break-in is thought to have taken place about 4 a.m. Jan. 25, when thieves broke through a small window and got into the store. Surveillance cameras in the store captured images of two people, one inside and the other outside.

Deputies say the man inside the store removed cash and other items, passing them through the window to the man outside. Detectives Jon Propst and Matt Burgess followed tips that led them to a nearby mobile home where the suspects allegedly had been spending time.

Each of the men was charged with one count of breaking and entering a building, larceny after breaking and entering, and possession of stolen goods.
