2 bodies found in northwest Charlotte home

Reports from Medic indicate the bodies were found about 9 a.m. at a home in the 5000 block of Mount Holly-Huntersville Road.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police and fire officials spent much of Friday at a home in northwest Charlotte, trying to determine what caused the deaths of a couple whose bodies were discovered by a family member.

The bodies were found about 9:30 a.m., police said, at a residence in the 5700 block of Mount Holly-Huntersville Road. That is about a mile east of Brookshire Boulevard.

“Detectives do not believe there is foul play involved at this time; however, it is still early in the investigation,” Officer Keith Trietley, a spokesman for CMPD, said Friday morning. He said police are still trying to contact the victims’ relatives.

Homicide detectives and fire officials remained at the scene Friday afternoon, examining the house and looking for possible witnesses. The one-story brick ranch is on a road of houses separated by wooded areas.

The Cook Volunteer Fire Department responded to three calls about a gas leak in the area beginning around 9 p.m. Thursday night, said assistant chief Chris Brady.

“Passersby were calling it in, with the wind, the smell would come and go,” he said, noting each call was to a separate location on Mt. Holly-Huntersville Road.

The first call around 9 p.m. was at Kennewick Road, the second call at Oakdale Road around 1 a.m. Friday and the third on the 5700 block of Mt. Holly-Huntersville Road shortly after 7 a.m., Brady said.

A police investigator at the scene said Friday afternoon that he could not rule out carbon monoxide as the cause of death.

Cook VFD responded to the call when the couple’s bodies were discovered and found no evidence of carbon monoxide or gas fumes, Brady said.

“We found nothing,” he said.

Anyone with information in the case is asked to contact detectives at 704-432-TIPS, or leave information with Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
