A Tega Cay man on his way outside for a smoke told police that a man he spotted leaving the deck of his home robbed him at gunpoint, stealing his cash and wallet, before the suspect “sucker punched him,” causing him to fall against the house on Friday, authorities said on Monday.

Police at about 8:45 p.m. were sent to a Misty Way Drive home after a resident, 37, reported that he was robbed and assaulted, according to a Tega Cay Police report. The man told officers he stepped outside his house to smoke when he noticed a man walking down the stairs from his deck. He walked up to the stranger and asked him what he was doing.

That’s when the man pulled out a “semi-automatic weapon,” held it to his face and told him to give up his valuables, the report states. The victim reached into his pocket and handed the suspect his wallet, which had $418 inside. The robber also asked for the victim’s watch, worth $1,600. As the victim began taking the watch off, the suspect “sucker punched” him with enough force that it sent him sprawling against the house.

The robber ran off, the report states. A York County Sheriff’s Office K9 unit was unsuccessful in tracking the suspect. Police found the victim’s wallet behind his house. Police are still investigating. The victim was unable to offer a detailed description of the alleged robber.
