A Burke County man was sentenced to at least 7 years and 10 months in prison after being convicted this week of stabbing a woman in the chest three months ago.

Travis Eugene Aldridge, 28, of Valdese, was convicted of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injuries.

Aldridge was arrested in November on charges of assaulting his girlfriend in Morganton. Police said two passing motorists saw the woman and subdued Aldridge until officers arrived.

Prosecutors said the stabbing resulted from an argument between Aldridge and the woman.

The victim has recovered, authorities said. Steve Lyttle
