Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say the latest person to cut off an electronic monitoring device is back behind bars.
Kevin Lee Sims was on the loose for 17 days before being recaptured Friday morning by officers in the Westover Division, police said. He was arrested without incident, according to police.
Sims had been arrested in late 2013 and charged with possession of a firearm by a felon and damage to property. He was released on $25,000 bond Dec. 14 and ordered to wear the monitoring device.
Police said he cut off the device Feb. 4 and was last seen on South Boulevard near East Park Avenue.
Sims’ time on the loose was unusually lengthy. Police say most of those who cut off the device are recaptured within a few days.
