The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a woman they said tried to cash a possibly stolen check earlier this week.
The woman gave the name of Danielle Carson when she went to the People’s Bank at 142 N.C. 16 around 3 p.m. Tuesday, officials said. The woman attempted to cash a check written from Everette Chevrolet in Hickory for $566.03, but was told by bank personnel they would not be able to cash it.
The woman immediately left the bank and got into a late model silver Chevrolet Impala or Malibu that was waiting in an adjacent parking lot, the sheriff’s office said. She left an Ohio drivers license with a Bellefontaine, Ohio address behind at the bank.
The picture on the license matches the photo taken from the bank’s surveillance system, officials said, describing her as a black female, about 5’2 and roughly 120 pounds.
Everette Chevrolet told detectives the check was originally made out to Valley Rentals in Hickory and could have been stolen from a mailbox.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office at 704-732-9050, the Lincoln County Communications Center at 704-735-8202 or Crime Stoppers at 704-736-8909.
