The station reported that after a Feb. 7 break-in, his father gave him a .22-caliber pistol for his safety. That was the gun he used Sunday morning, though culprits grabbed it and pistol-whipped him.

Police later arrested Kristopher Garret Welch, 20, and Andrew Christopher Calamari, 21. Both were in the Cabarrus County jail under $200,000 bond each. Each faces charges for two counts of first degree burglary and felony larceny, according to WCNC.
