Kannapolis police say two men broke into another man’s residence twice in a period of three weeks. That apparently was one time too many.
Kristopher Garrett Welch, 20, and Andrew Christopher Calamari, 21, each of Kannapolis, were arrested Sunday morning after they allegedly broke into Christopher Lee Ludwik’s home on Fisher Street, according to Kannapolis police. Investigators allege Welch and Calamari were the same men involved in a Feb. 7 home invasion at the residence.
This time, Ludwik was armed, according to authorities. Police say he pulled out a handgun when the two men allegedly broke into his home about 4:30 a.m. Sunday and began firing. One of the alleged attackers was shot in the leg, police say. During the scuffle, police say, one of the suspects grabbed the gun from Ludwik and struck him on the head. Kannapolis police did not say which of the suspects was injured.
The wounded man was arrested after arriving at CMC-Northeast for treatment, investigators say. Concord police found and arrested the other man.
Welch and Calamari each was charged with felony larceny and two counts of first-degree burglary. Welch also was charged with assault and battery, and Calamari was charged with assault with a deadly weapon and larceny of a firearm.
Police ask anyone with information about the two home invasions to contact them at 704-920-4000, at @kannapolis911 (Twitter) or at Kannapolis911 (Facebook). Information also can be left with Crime Stoppers at 704-932-7463.
