Homicide detectives continued working Tuesday to determine what led to the fatal shooting of a 26-year-old Charlotte man Monday evening in northeastern Mecklenburg County.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have identified the victim as Tony Van Tran.
They say he was brought to Carolinas Medical Center-University a short time after the shooting, which took place about 6:30 p.m. in the 10600 block of Northgate Trail Drive. That is in a neighborhood off Reedy Creek Road, not far from Interstate 485 and Harrisburg Road.
Police say they were called about a shooting in the area, and officers who arrived on the scene found shell casings but no shooting victim. A short time later, they heard from CMC about the victim having arrived there. Van Tran died shortly after arriving at the hospital.
Investigators say a second person was assaulted, suffered a minor injury, and was treated at the scene by Medic.
Police ask that anyone with information in the case contact detectives at 704-432-TIPS, or leave information with Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 or http://charlottecrimestoppers.com.
