Three men have been jailed in connection with a Feb. 26 incident in which someone fired at a man driving on Interstate 85 in west Charlotte.
Police say the victim wrecked his vehicle, and one of the suspects then drove off with the damaged car.
The shooting was reported about 2 p.m. Feb. 26 on I-85, police said. A man told police he was driving when someone began shooting at his vehicle. The man said he accelerated and got off I-85 at Little Rock Road but wrecked his vehicle.
The man said he ran to a nearby business to call 911 but saw one of the suspects drive off with his damaged vehicle. The man was not injured, police said.
The next day, police were called to the 6400 block of Beatties Ford Road, near Trinity Road, to help Charlotte firefighters with a vehicle fire. Police said they determined the car belonged to the victim in the I-85 shooting.
Investigators said evidence led them to Antonio Cunningham, 24, of Charlotte. He was taken into custody at a residence on Biesterfield Drive, off Beatties Ford Road in northwest Charlotte. Police charged Cunningham with possession of a firearm by a felon, discharging a weapon into occupied property and arson.
Police said they continued the investigation and identified two more suspects – Jeremiah Cook, 25, and Elontrae Glenn, 26. They were arrested Wednesday. Police said each was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon. Glenn was also charged with attempted murder, authorities said.
