A Texas man and two North Carolina residents were arrested on drug charges Wednesday morning after a traffic stop on Interstate 85 in Gaston County, police say.
Gaston County police said they found 1.5 kilograms, or about 3 1/3 pounds, of methamphetamine in the car. The drugs were in a hidden compartment, according to police.
Officers said they stopped a 2003 Chevrolet Malibu about 9 a.m. Wednesday on southbound I-85 due to what they said was a traffic offense. A police search dog detected the presence of narcotics, police said, and that led to a search.
The three occupants were identified by police as the driver, Juan Lopez of Houston; and passengers Gabriela Garcia and Benito Hernandez, both of Winston-Salem.
Each faces several drug-related charges, police said.
