Someone is frightening and angering Weddington residents by zipping around town in a white Porsche at ferocious speeds, and now law enforcement is getting involved.

The Union County Sheriff’s Office has issued an alert to residents of southwestern Union County, asking for their help in finding the driver of the car.

Sheriff’s Deputy Ryan Hedlund said the Sheriff’s Office, which provides law enforcement for Weddington, has received at least five complaints in the past week about the Porsche. He said residents estimate the car was going at least 100 mph.

In one case, Hedlund said, drivers reported seeing the car pass five vehicles on a double yellow line. He said the car has been seen on Antioch Church, Hemby and Potter roads, not far from the Mecklenburg County line. Those are all two-lane roads, some with hills and blind curves.

“This driver presents an extreme danger to himself and everyone else on the road,” Hedlund said.

The Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information in the case to contact Hedlund at ryanhedlund@co.union.nc.us.
