A Stanly County man has been charged in connection with a gun theft from 2 1/2 years ago, authorities said. Deputies said Ted Joseph Wittman, 34, of Albemarle, was arrested Monday and charged with possession of a stolen firearm and obtaining property by false pretense. The charges date back to a theft from Oct. 24, 2011, the sheriff’s office said.

The victim reported to authorities that he found his stolen gun – an Iver Johnson shotgun – in late February at an Albemarle pawn shop. Deputies checked into the sale of the gun and said they obtained warrants on Wittman. Observer Staff Reports
