A thief tunneled through the floor of a Gastonia home and was able to escape with more than $5,000 worth of electronics and designer fashions, police said.

The burglary on Green Circle Drive was reported shortly before 6 a.m. Thursday when the 53-year-old resident got home from work and found the hole, according to the police report.

Roughly $1,500 worth of damage was done to the hardwood floor that was “busted and torn up to create an entrance hole,” police said.

The suspect reportedly took a Macbook laptop, eight Michael Kors watches, Gucci and Louis Vuitton handbags as well as almost $500 in loose change, the police report said.

A .38-caliber semi-automatic pistol also was stolen, according to the report. Hilary Trenda
