A Rock Hill teenager who police say was the passenger in car was arrested after officers found an open, cold can of beer and three small bottles of vodka in the Dodge Ram’s floorboard on Saturday.
At about 11:30 p.m., police were patrolling Warner Street, off Crawford Road, when they noticed a red 2006 Dodge Ram apparently moving recklessly when it backed up on Haile Street and spun its tires, causing them to squeal against the pavement, according to a Rock Hill police report. The car then began traveling north on Warner Street, “accelerating quickly towards the oncoming patrol vehicle.”
Police turned around to make a traffic stop, but a man who police say was between 30 and 40 years old, jumped out the car and began running southwest through several yards, the report states. Delonta Thomas, 18, got out the passenger’s side of the car, but police were able to stop him. Thomas told officers he had nothing to do with the man driving wildly, but did not tell police why he was in the car.
Officers searched the car and found an open 24-ounce can of Bud Light on the floorboard, the report states. They also found three small bottles of vodka in the passenger’s seat, along with a cold, closed 12-ounce bottle of Miller Lite beer. “This was the area of the vehicle in which Thomas had possession and control,” police reported.
Thomas was arrested and cited with possession of beer under 21, possession of spirituous liquor under 21 and open container of beer in a vehicle. Police chased the other man, but were unable to find him by Saturday.
