York deputies shoot, kill man during confrontation

The York County Sheriff’s Office said deputies shot and killed a man who pointed a gun at them during a confrontation early Tuesday morning near Fort Mill.
The incident took place about 12:30 a.m., a short distance south of the state line.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies were called to a residence in the 1200 block of Lurecliff Place, off Pleasant Road. That is a short distance west of Interstate 77.
Deputies had been called to the residence to check on a person who reportedlty was suicidal. According to authorities, a 28-year-old man at the residence pointed a firearm at deputies, and deputies returned fire, killing the man.
No deputies were injured.
The sheriff’s office said the State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) has been called in to investigate the shooting, as is policy in cases of officer-involved shootings. The sheriff’s office has not released the identity of the man who was shot.
