An Indian Trail man was arrested on charges of shooting another man twice in the leg Saturday morning following a fight in Lake Park, authorities said.
On Friday night, Frederick Schweizer, Jr., 23, and Harry Penny, 31, both of Indian Trail, had an argument at a bar, said Sgt. Malcolm Murray with the Union County Sheriff’s Office.
They agreed to settle the spat with a fight at a Lake Park basketball court in the 6000 block of Creft Circle, Murray said. At about 5:30 a.m., Union County deputies responded to a call about shots fired at that location.
Antwoine Shannon, 30, came to the court during the fight and allegedly shot Schweizer twice in the back of his right leg, Murray said. He said Schweizer was taken to the hospital and is expected to be fine.
Deputies arrested Shannon at the scene without incident, and he confessed to the shooting, Murray said.
Shannon was charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia. He remained in Union County Jail Saturday night on $25,000 secured bond.
Murray declined to say what the men were fighting about.
