Gaston County police have charged three people in connection with the death of a man that investigators say was killed in Gastonia then dumped on a street in west Charlotte.
Avery Joe Lail Jr., 49, of Gastonia, has been charged with first-degree murder. And two other Gastonia residents – Delia Aldridge Rick, 56, and Mark Anthony Huntley, 41 – have been charged with accessory after the fact to murder.
Gaston County investigators say they have linked the three to the death of 41-year-old Brian Dale Jones of Gastonia.
Jones’ body was discovered March 23 in the 8900 block of Old Dowd Road in west Charlotte. Investigators said Charlotte-Mecklenburg police and their Gaston County counterparts determined the crime actually took place on Green Chapman Road near Gastonia.
Lail and Rick were arrested last Friday, and Huntley was taken into custody Wednesday. Investigators allege Huntley helped Lail load Jones’ body into a vehicle and dump it in west Charlotte.
Huntley also is accused of helping Lail remove physical evidence and alter the alleged homicide scene.
Lail is jailed without bond. Huntley is under $500,000 bond, and bond is set at $100,000 for Rick.
