Police arrest man in Monroe break-ins

Monroe police accuse Henry Gainey of breaking into a Dollar General store and a restaurant this week.

Monroe police have arrested a man in connection with a pair of break-ins this week at businesses near the downtown area.

Henry Ellis Gainey, 45, of Monroe, was arrested this week on two counts of felony larceny and two counts of injury to real property. The charges stem from break-ins at the Dollar General store on Sunset Drive and Buddy’s Point Restaurant on Franklin Street, according to police.

Investigators said someone broke into the Dollar General store shortly early Tuesday morning and took a donation jar.

Then shortly before 2:45 a.m. Wednesday, police responded to a call to Buddy’s Point Restaurant and found the front-door glass broken and damage inside the business. An undisclosed amount of cash was missing, police said.

Police said detectives determined the break-ins were related and said evidence pointed them to Gainey.
