A Montgomery County man has been jailed under more than $150,000 bond after being arrested late last week.

The sheriff’s office said Joseph Brandon Cranford, 34, of Mount Gilead, was arrested after being accused in the theft of a rifle from a home near Lake Tillery last August.

Investigators said tips helped lead them to the suspect, who was arrested and jailed in Montgomery County. The sheriff’s office said Cranford was charged with breaking and entering and larceny, but they said he faces “numerous other charges” in Montgomery and Stanly counties.

He is scheduled to appear in a Stanly County courtroom on May 12, according to the sheriff’s office.
