Police have arrested a man in connection with three armed robberies of businesses in east Charlotte during the past few days.

Richard Wager, 52, was taken into custody late Tuesday afternoon after being stopped by an officer on Albemarle Road.

Police said Wager’s vehicle was stopped because it fits the description of the vehicle used in robberies Saturday, Sunday and Monday afternoons. Wager was charged after being interviewed by detectives, police said.

He was charged with armed robbery with a dangerous weapon, common law robbery and attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon.

The first robbery took place about 6:45 p.m. Saturday at the Dollar General store on East W.T. Harris Boulevard in the Hickory Grove area. An employee said the robber demanded money at gunpoint before fleeing with cash.

The second robbery was reported about 5:15 p.m. Sunday from the Circle K, on Idlewild Road at East W.T. Harris Boulevard. Once again, the bandit demanded money at gunpoint and then fled with cash.

The third case was reported about 3:45 p.m. Monday at the Dollar General store on Albemarle Road near Wilgrove-Mint Hill Road. Police said the suspect again fled with cash after demanding money at gunpoint.
