A Union County high school science teacher has been arrested after authorities say she had sex with a student.

Jessica Marie Deck was in the Union County jail on Thursday after the arrest. She is charged with sex offense with a student and is scheduled to make her first court appearance on Friday. She was being held on $5,000 bond.

Deck, 28, teaches three chemistry courses and a physics course at Sun Valley High School, according to the Union County Public Schools website.

On Thursday, she was suspended with pay, according to UCPS Spokesman Rob Jackson. She’s been a teacher at Sun Valley High School since August 2012.

According to WBTV, the student was a 17-year-old male. Investigators haven’t said where the alleged sexual activity occurred.

In 2013, Deck was one of several teachers to receive a “Bright Ideas” grant from Union Power Cooperative to fund innovative projects.
