A Stanly County man has been charged this week in connection with stolen construction equipment from an Albemarle company, authorities said.
James Edward Furr Sr., 47, of Norwood was arrested Tuesday and charged with felony larceny and two counts of possession of stolen property, authorities said. He was jailed on a$10,000 bond.
Deputies said officials at Roger H. Russell Grading & Paving reported in mid-April that a Bobcat Model 435 excavator, valued at $40,000, was stolen from a job site. An excavator bucket, worth $1,300, also was taken.
Investigators said information led them to a Montgomery County construction site on Montgomery Shores Drive in Mount Gilead. With help from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Stanly County authorities said they found the stolen Bobcat excavator, although the bucket was not located.
And now the Stanly County Sheriff’s Office is looking for another piece of equipment reported stolen more than seven years ago in Charlotte.
While at the construction site, deputies said they also saw a Bobcat T250 skid-steer excavator and couldn’t determine who owned it. Later, Stanly County deputies said they learned that machine had been reported stolen in October 2006.
When deputies returned to the site, however, the Bobcat T250 was gone, and investigators said they have gotten no help from people at the construction site in finding it.
Deputies ask anyone with information about the Bobcat T250 to contact detectives at 704-986-3714.
