A Forsyth County man was killed Monday morning when the car he was driving collided with a tractor-trailer at a rest stop on southbound Interstate 77 in Mooresville, the N.C. Highway Patrol says.

Troopers said the crash was reported about 7:45 a.m. at the rest stop on I-77 near mile marker 38, not far from Mooresville. They said the driver of the car exited I-77 onto the ramp leading to the rest stop.

The car then slammed into the rear of the truck. It was not clear if the truck was stopped or not. The car’s driver died at the scene. He was identified as Thomas Tarrott, 61, of Winston-Salem.

As of mid-afternoon, the rest stop was still closed. Steve Lyttle
