Driver killed in Union County truck crash

The driver of a tractor-trailer was killed Monday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash in southern Union County, the N.C. Highway Patrol says.

The crash was reported about 2 p.m. on Rocky River Road South (N.C. 521) near Ruben Road. That is in the Prospect community, about 10 miles south of Monroe and 12 miles east of Waxhaw.

Troopers said the driver of the truck slowed suddenly to avoid hitting a vehicle in the road. The cab of the truck slid into a ditch on the side of the road, and the trailer flipped and landed on top of the cab, troopers said

The name of the driver has not been released.
