S.C. motorcyclist dies trying to avoid turkey

A motorcyclist was killed Monday evening when he crashed while trying to avoid hitting a turkey in Chester County, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.

The crash was reported about 6:15 p.m. on Leeds Road, about 10 miles southwest of Chester in rural western Chester County.

Troopers said the driver saw the wild turkey in the road and swerved. The motorcycle went off the road and struck a tree.

The driver was not wearing a helmet, troopers said. The name of the victim has not been released.
