A man was shot to death outside an apartment complex in south Charlotte on Thursday afternoon, and investigators searched the neighborhood and nearby woods for his killer.
Late Thursday, police identified the victim as Bias Easley, 27. His body was found near a walkway at the High Meadow Condominiums on Farmhurst Drive, near where Nations Ford Road meets Interstate 77.
Crime scene investigators had blocked the man’s body from view and could be seen taking photographs of the body and the scene.
Investigators haven’t released the name or a description of a suspect, who was being sought by a large contingent of officers. Some could be seen combing a nearby wooded area, another was leading a police tracking dog. A police helicopter was also used in the search.
It was unclear what led to Thursday’s shooting.
Police encourage anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600. Tipsters are eligible for a reward for information that leads to an arrest.
Thursday’s slaying was the 14th homicide Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have investigated this year. At this point last year, police had investigated 16.
