An 8-year-old was seriously injured Monday night after being hit by a white SUV, and police are asking the public to help identify the driver, who drove off without stopping.
The child was riding a bike around 6 p.m. on Idlebrook Drive, near where East W.T. Harris Boulevard meets Idlewild Road in southeast Charlotte when he was struck.
The vehicle was described as a white Ford Expedition with black bumpers. Police believe there is damage to the front right bumper and quarter panel. It was last seen traveling southwest on Idlebrook.
The driver was described as a black man in his mid- to late 20s with short hair or balding. He was wearing a white short-sleeved shirt.
The child was taken to Carolinas Medical Center with serious injuries.
Anyone with information on the case or the driver of the SUV should call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600. Tipsters are eligible for a reward for information that leads to an arrest.
