5 hurt in University City collision

Five people were injured, three seriously, in a two-car crash Saturday in Charlotte’s University City area.
The crash was reported shortly after noon at West W.T. Harris Boulevard and Chancellor Park Drive, police said. According to investigators, the driver of a 2000 Honda eastbound on Harris Boulevard lost control of her vehicle and slammed into a 2008 Kia waiting for a traffic signal on Chancellor Park Drive.
The Kia was driven by a 26-year-old Charlotte woman. Police said the 59-year-old woman driving the Honda told officers she was suffering some type of medical problem and passed out before the crash.
Medic reported transporting five people to Carolinas Medical Center – three with potentially life-threatening injuries and two with minor injuries. No charges have been filed in the case. Police said the crash also destroyed a fire hydrant.
