Law enforcement officials in Cleveland County say they are working to solve a series of at least five armed robberies of convenience stores in the past month.
Four of the crimes were reported in Shelby, the most recent coming early Wednesday morning. And a similar robbery was reported early Thursday morning just west of Shelby.
No injuries have been reported, police said.
Shortly after 2 a.m. Wednesday, police said, a man with a black handgun entered the One Stop Food Store, in the 900 block of Fallston Road, and demanded money from the clerk. The man ran off with the cash, headed toward Wyke Road, where he got into a car that went eastbound.
The suspect is described as a light-skinned black male, about 5-foot-9 to 5- foot-11, with a white shirt over his head and a black mask or T-shirt over his face. He also was wearing a red long-sleeve shirt and tan camouflage pants.
Shelby police said they also are trying to solve armed robberies between June 29 and July 6 at the Kangaroo Express, 3600 West Dixon Boulevard; Fast Stop Market, 1020 East Dixon Boulevard; and Mike’s Food Store, 805 Earl Road.
In addition, the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office is working to solve a robbery reported about 1:30 a.m. Thursday at the One Stop Food Store, in the 3900 block of West Dixon Boulevard. Investigators said the suspect in that case was similar to the man in the Fallston Road robbery about 24 hours earlier.
Anyone with information in the case is asked to contact Shelby police Lt. Wray Hamrick, 704-484-7151; or Cleveland County sheriff’s Det. Daniel Howell, 704-476-3041. Or information can be left with Crime Stoppers, 704-481-8477.
