A body found Monday morning in a wooded area near East Independence Boulevard “appears to be a suicide,” Charlotte-Mecklenburg police spokesman Keith Trietley said.
The body was found sometime around 10:30 a.m. off Wendover Road near the Independence Boulevard ramp. Police remained on the scene early Monday afternoon.
“The listed victim was found in an unconscious state suffering from extensive burns about the body,” said Trietley. “The burns are believed to be self-inflicted.”
The victim, whose gender has not been released, was pronounced dead by Medic at 11:05 a.m.
Police reported several minor collisions and near-collisions by motorists who apparently were distracted by police activity in the area.
