A woman has been accused of taking more than $4,000 from her employer over a period of nearly four months, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.

Meghan Black Cook, 33, of Maiden, was arrested this week in connection with the alleged crime at the Walmart store on N.C. 73 in Denver. She was charged with one count of embezzlement.

Deputies said they were contacted by Walmart loss prevention officers about a possible larceny by an employee. Investigators said Cook is accused of making 51 cash refund receipts for medication that had been purchased, then keeping the receipts.

She is accused of taking $4,035 between April 2 and July 24.
