Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are investigating a shooting death overnight on the northwest side of the city.

Police said they responded shortly before 1 a.m. to the 4400 block of Tillman Road after a call about an assault. That area is near I-85, Glenwood Drive and South Hoskins Road.

Late Thursday, investigators identified the man as 22-year-old Darius Antonio Fuller.

Officers said they found Fuller with a gunshot wound a short distance away from a vehicle that had crashed into a wooded area. Investigators said they believe the shooting victim was an occupant of the vehicle.

Fuller was taken by Medic to Carolinas Medical Center, but he died.

Police said they do not believe it was a random act of violence. Detectives canvassed the area for several hours overnight, looking for possible witnesses. Police also called in their K-9 drug search unit but did not find a suspect.

Anyone with information in the case is asked to call detectives at 704-432-TIPS.
