A Cherryville man was arrested early Thursday after Lincoln County Sheriff’s deputies say he tried to elude officials while driving a stolen motorcycle.
Coley Phillip Craft, 42, of Bell Street, has been charged with operating a motor vehicle while attempting to elude law enforcement, possession of stolen goods, driving while impaired and other charges, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
A deputy traveling on Hull’s Grove Church Road around 2 a.m. Thursday got behind a motorcycle operator who crossed the center line and ran a stop sign, officials said.
The motorcycle operator turned onto a driveway at Bill Davis Trucking on Reep’s Grove Church Road, dropped the vehicle and ran into nearby woods, the sheriff’s office said.
The motorcycle had been reported stolen from the Walmart in Cherryville. The deputy searched the area and found the man, Craft, nearby, officials said.
Craft’s charges also included driving while license revoked and reckless driving to endanger, the sheriff’s office said.
Craft is being held at the Lincoln County Detention Center under $30,000 secured bond.
