A 41-year-old motorcyclist was killed Wednesday night in a single-vehicle crash in north Charlotte’s Highland Creek community, police say.
The crash was reported about 8 p.m. in the 6900 block of Highland Creek Parkway. That is west of Clarke Creek Parkway and near the greenway.
Police said Jamie Allen Szot was driving a 2002 Suzuki GSX-R 1000 when the vehicle went off the roadway. The motorcycle hit a tree and went down an embankment, police said. Medic pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
Detectives interviewed witnesses, and police said it appeared as if the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it went off the road. Police continue to investigate the wreck but said it appears as if speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.
Anyone with information in the case is asked to call Charlotte-Mecklenburg police Detective R.C. Gormican at 704-432-2169. Or information can be left with Crime Stoppers, 704-334-1600.
