Troopers seek driver in fatal Hickory hit-and-run

The victim, whose name has not been released, was found in the center of the divided highway, a short distance south of Interstate 40.

North Carolina Highway Patrol troopers are investigating a hit-and-run incident that left a pedestrian dead on U.S. 321 near Hickory on Monday morning.

The victim, whose name has not been released, was found in the center of the divided highway, a short distance south of Interstate 40.

Troopers issued an alert for a gray or black Honda Civic, possibly a late 1990s model, with significant front-end damage. That was based on debris. But troopers later said they are not certain if the debris was from Monday’s incident.

The vehicle that struck the victim will have a broken windshield, however, investigators said.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact the N.C. Highway Patrol at 800-445-1779. Steve Lyttle
