Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say a teen was shot and seriously wounded at midday Thursday on one of the city’s busiest streets.
The shooting took place minutes before noon outside a convenience store on South Tryon Street at RiverGate Parkway, in the southwest side of the city. Authorities said they don’t believe it was a case of random violence.
Police said a Steele Creek Division officer was on a traffic stop nearby when he was alerted about a possible shooting nearby. The officer immediately went to the store, where he found the male teen suffering from a gunshot wound.
The victim was taken by Medic to Carolinas Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, police said. Investigators taped off an area around the gasoline pumps at the store, and other police searched for a suspect.
Police said the shooter and victim apparently knew each other, and the shooting followed some type of altercation.
Anyone with information in the case is asked to contact detectives at 704-432-TIPS. Information also can be left with Crime Stoppers, 704-334-1600.
